What distro are you running?

I just loaded Ubuntu 19.10 Beta as I always load the new Ubuntu twice a year. Right now I have 2 goals. Learn Fedora and learn openSuse and learn to embrace them. Who knows, maybe Slackware one day.

I’ve been using Debian for years, but have started experimenting with Fedora again, which I used decades ago when, even when it was RedHat, before they moved to enterprise only. I think it’s healthy to know about the variety of systems so I’ll also be trying Arch and Gentoo in the future, I think, after I’ve built LFS

I’m on Arch Linux with GNOME. Before that was Solus and Arch again before that. I like rolling release distros and moved back to Arch to try GNOME 3.24 sooner, and because I missed the bleeding edge part of rolling.

I’m on Manjaro GNOME right now, but I’ll definitely switch to Ubuntu MATE 19.10 when it’s released. How long I stick with it remains to be seen…

Can we directly upgrade beta when 19.10 is released?

In speaking to members of the Lubuntu and MATE teams, yes, you can upgrade. If I understood them correctly I don’t think there are any steps necessary beyond a normal update. I’m thinking of things like needing to change repositories, etc. Let me know if that’s not the case because I’m sure there’s a way to do it if it doesn’t just happen on its own.

Yes, you can. Usually it works that way.

The distro I am running right now is Xubuntu 19.04, I used to run Arch, but I wanted to try something different and see if I could approximate my workflow in a Debian based distro. So far everything is working great. Also I am using the new ZFS-on-root option and haven’t encountered any errors, so it’s amazing!

I’m running KDE Neon, because I’m interested in KDE development. For now I only report bugs, but once I have time I hope to move into fixing them.

Out of curiosity, which MATE layout you’re using?

Before I switched full-time to Plasma (except for one partition on my laptop with Unity desktop), I was using Contemporary. I even got one of my activities with that layout.

Manjaro Juhrayah and loving it!

MX LINUX 19

tried a number of distros … several flavors of buntu of which kubuntu was my favorite then had a bash at manjaro but that didn’t take then i came across MX

don’t need anything cutting edge…i just want my computers to work for me

MX does that : been using it across 4 different laptops for the past 9 months and it has been flawless

Started off using the default XFCE verion but i am now using their unofficial KDE Plasma desktop because i prefer the bling but using their new fluxbox release on an underpowered machine

i will be using MX until it turns to dust or I cark it … whichever comes first

Elementary os for the win. As zeb would say, it just works.

I’m still a complete noob though, and have a spare laptop, so thinking I might install xubuntu on that one as I saw an awesome xfce setup on the Unixporn subreddit, so may try to replicate that as a learning experience

Currently using Vanilla Arch at home, but may go back to Manjaro over Xmas. Undecided, but I do like the sleekness of my Arch install

Well - more of an update since I posted here before. I liked Manjaro so much on my laptop that back on Thanksgiving I switched my desktop over to it as well. So liking Manjaro so very much.

Switched my “work” laptop over to EndeavourOS after the new netinstaller release. Spot on release, very awesome. I don’t think I ran into any hiccups… if I did, they were the furthest away from “show-stoppers.”

I’m trying some Fedora 31 spins for the BDL challenge but am also happily running the Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix that was recently released. It’s Cinnamon on the Ubuntu 19.10 base.

In the end I ultimately went back to Manjaro. While Arch has very bleeding edge updates, I honestly didn’t see much benefit in using it over Manjaro, which has a more cultivated package-set and is more stable as a result.
