Every laptop has only one distribution installed. Multiple distros on one machine does not make sense in my case either.
My VM with the 8 years old Ubuntu 16.04 ESM, used daily! Running the latest stable snaps of Firefox; Thunderbird and LibreOffice. Note that 16.04 runs the newest LibreOffice 24.2.0.3 with the new release display based on year.month, while 22.04 still runs the old LibreOffice 7.3.7.5.
After swearing to myself to keep with Ubuntu 23.10 and make my decision to switch distributions when 24.04 came out. I was trying to force myself to keep using Gnome and use the basically only the extensions of Ubuntu. However, after some snags and need a fresh air through some of my stress, I decided to give Nobara a try.
It has been a long time since my RPM-based package days. I started on Redhat. I have been through Gentoo, Arch, Ubuntu, and the like. I was seriously thinking about giving Tumbleweed a go again. However, I went with Nobara because I am trying to get back into some gaming for stress relief, time management, and to actually use what I have bought. Nobara has a lot of focus on gaming and I tack on from there. I was thinking that using distrobox with a Tumbleweed container on it to get both experiences.
I am running a Oryx Pro 3 from System76 with a nVidia GTX 1070. I do not use the laptop screen due to vision issue these days. After disabling the laptop screen and only having my external, I have so far been living in Wayland with no problems. I will find out after I get the games in. The surprising bonus is the next day after updates, I was on Plasma 6.0.1. Working well there.
I revitalizing an abandoned Windows 8 era laptop. I am going with Spirallinux with Cinnamon. I went with Spiral because of it being Debian. I am not needing to maintain updated applications and such through the distro. This will be my test bed for learning the nix package manager and still have a system I know how to run while I am learning.
