So, my niece is turning 17 next month and she has started showing talent in drawing. She currently doesn’t have a computer (her phone has been enough for her at this point) but she has expressed some interest in an IPad and ProCreate… I was hoping to lean her into Linux and Krita as while the iPad and ProCreate are top notch, everything else about the iPad sucks.
I was looking for suggestions in either a Linux Tablet that would be good for drawing or a 2 in 1 computer that would be useful (so she could do papers and such on the 2 in 1, etc).
Any ideas, or should I just look for a used iPad and get her Pro Create??
Thanks for your opinions!
David Revoy, an illustrator who only uses FLOSS software to create, has a bunch of reviews on his site https://www.davidrevoy.com. A little warning right now as he is currently bearish on the state of Linux digital art creation, but the information is there and I feel like that’s a good place to start.
While the screen has gotten mixed reviews, you’re saying 2in1 and Linux, so I think the Framework 12 does deserve a mention
Does the software allow 16-bit color?
8-bit rgb is incredibly limiting, I can see the difference in color or brightness when comparing colors by simply changing one value by 1 / 256, or moving all three values up or down by 1 / 256 so I think 8-bit color palletes / video output is too limiting for today’s hardware.
If you get a 10 / 12 / 16-bit color monitor, whichever exists, avoid all the snake-oil fake 8-bit + FRC monitors from garbage companies and do not support them.
