So trying to win the award for absolute worst title here.
My title was going to be about how windows 11 was ripping off its users.
So I use a computer at work running windows 11. Almost thin client. Its purpose being restricted to accessing our network, stocking in, and printing barcodes.
This is not a gaming PC, but still. I have ‘One’ program that I want this PC to autostart at boot. One!
I have no idea if I set it to autostart at admin level or user level. And don’t think it is on SSD, but I could be wrong.
Windows has a ton of stuff it no doubt wants to run in the background. All these important things that must be given the priority over anything the user wants to do.
Back when windows was windows 3.1 or windows for workgroups I think it was, Windows actually cared about its users. It wanted to make an OS that people wanted to use, and not just use because they have no other choice.
So Windows 11 boots.. shows off it’s theming, and sits there running whatever it is running in the background for 20 minutes before it bothers to launch the ‘one’ item on it’s autostart queue… 20 minutes! I am starting to understand why Windows is having so much trouble getting businesses to upgrade.
The ‘one’ item that is its sole reason for being in the workplace. The only thing that the user, me, wants it to focus on.
I know there are things I could probably do to make the autostart more of a priority. If I was willing to play around with reg settings I might be able to Google a quicker autostart. But that is beside the point. If Windows provides settings that allows the user to decide which programs start on login / autostart then it should honour those choices. If the autostart gets put so low on the pecking order that it does not achieve what the user wants then at best this should be considered a bug and should be fixed so that it behaves as expected. At worse this is a betrayal of trust.
Microsoft does not care about its users anymore.
