Omarchy vs Omakub

So anyone played around with Omakub or Omarchy from DHH?

Omakub sets up some basic tiling on top of Gnome on Ubuntu while Omarchy uses Hyperland on Arch with some default configuration.

DHH has moved onto Omarchy as his primary system by the sounds of it, so less development going into Omakub in the future I guess.

Omarchy..

“The project’s momentum highlights a broader shift among developers seeking alternatives to proprietary systems. Hansson’s influence, amplified through his public persona, has drawn in new-to-Linux enthusiasts, making Omarchy a gateway for those transitioning from macOS or Windows. This rapid iteration underscores the agility of open-source development, where community input can accelerate improvements far beyond individual efforts.”

“For our HEY application, even the fastest Mac, an M4 Max, is almost twice as slow as a Framework Desktop machine running Linux, which can do Docker natively.”

I have heard of it but I havent had a chance to try it out just yet. The first versions of it were basically just bash scripts so I wasn’t that interested in the project other than for its potential but now that there’s an ISO for it, I think it is time to give it a look around.

Distro Review from BashBunni

Points out that the Omarchy keyboard shortcuts would be familiar for anyone coming from a Mac environment, and could be a great launch into Linux for Mac users.

although reviewing a distro based on keybindings is a bit like reviewing a distro on default wallpaper. If you don’t like the originals you can change them.
