This the new DLN show?

This was a great first episode to the show! It’s great to see a full house with so many familiar faces and great energy.

I think we all had some positive things to say about Mint, which says some really great things about the quality of the distribution, so that was very refreshing!

Special thanks to everyone who helps make this happen. I’m thrilled to see this grow, and it’s awesome that it’s part of DLN. Thanks to Nate for putting in so much time and energy into making this happen, too. You’ve been an awesome host!! You deserve a lot of credit!

Yes, it was previously BDLL or BigDaddyLinux Live but has been branded and brought into the Destination Linux Network.

I had a great time tonight. I even got to argue with @MichaelTunnell a little so what more could I ask for? :innocent:

This page doesn’t seem to exist yet, or is somehow malfunctioning for me… I just end up with a blank tab that sits there and does nothing.

Same for me, yesterday too, the site may be in the works. I’ll pass it on.

I adjusted the link above. It needs to be HTTP for now as it’s a redirect and making a redirect HTTPS I think requires using a server to do the routing instead of just a DNS entry.

Aha! Seems i missed something. I’ll have a listen. Good job guys!

don’t use https: This is my failure. use http://linuxsaloon.com

My job my failure, it’ll be ready soon.

Actually it is your proxy ssl forwarding that is broken You need to see up a SSL cert for linuxsaloon.com and the proxy_pass that to the actual server. If they are on the same stack then you don’t even need to set up a wildcard cert.

The sub domains are forwarding at the DNS level so there’s no routing at the moment. Also a few go off-site like http://telegram.linuxsaloon.com.

A wildcard cert is a good idea. It’ll be an NGINX router handling the redirects unless you recommend something else. Just haven’t had a spare moment to finish it till now.

Letsencrypt allows wildcard domains you just have to be a registered user.

OK listening to LS001 now and interesting talks about Mint , just a pity everyone glossed over Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE).

As people may have read, I am Debian guy, but in the early days of Gnome 3 decided to switch to Cinnamon I got into a bloody mess of configurations and settings. As I was getting a new laptop and decided to install LMDE. I ran it for a few years but found it was pinned to Debian stable, and it was not so easy to splice testing into it, so in the end, I switched back to Debian as Gnome 3 was better by then. Pity no one mentioned that option as it is not that unusual to stick to debs as they have them for LMDE anyway.

At the end, though, you started talking about Humble. Did everyone forget they got bought out by IGN a few years back ? The original management team has been replaced, and the business model has definitely changed. I saw the writing on the wall and no longer buy any game bundles that way. Some book bundle and comics sure… but I have already downloaded all my Humble games locally anyway, using this rather handy tool

hb-downloader

So I am less worried now about loosing access to my DRM free games. The steam keys however have to be manually reclaimed and some of those will expire… so if you have any unreclaimed, I would claim them now even if you have that game already and gift it to someone else.

Interesting evolution for BDL and it is cool to see it part of DLN now. I shall have to try and join one live sometime, it looks like fun.

Addendum: My Steamdeck is showing as Q2 2022, so not February for me, alas.

I didn’t try the LMDE version because… I didn’t see a compelling reason as to why. I understand the reasons but it seems like that Ubuntu is the place to get the latest and more ironed out packages. It is a good point. Honestly, I have been a bit disappointed with my Debian experience as of late so I just look to other distros to satisfy what it is for which I am looking.

I hope you are able to join LS at some point. It would be great and my SteamDeck also shows Q2 2022. I will wait patiently.
