Linus Torvald’s name just came up on ABC Australia

So it was a quiz show on Australia’s national broadcaster, ABC.

If you watched that episode of Hard Quiz, the question was, Who is Linus Torvalds?

And one of the contestants actually got it right, by answering that He was the creator of Linux.

so if people outside the Tech field know this, does that mean Linux is mainstream?

I know the question about whether Linux is mainstream or not is a case of moving goalposts, a bit like is this the year of Linux on the desktop. I have seen Linux mentioned in a PC magazine a number of times recently which is heaps more then 10 years ago. Maybe my expectations have changed and I now want more.

I would love to say this is an indication that Linux is well on the way to being mainstream.

I think Linux is very much in the mainstream now that we have gone past 5% market share on the metrics because that means we are probably closer to 10% if we were to have all the stats.

I think there are tons of different factors that have helped the platform get here over the years and I think it is certainly fair to say that Linux is now mainstream. I dont think it is mainstream like the two big players but it is to a point that people have heard of it even if they dont fully understand what it means. :+1:
