Is there a bios made for linux?

Hello there,

I have an old asus laptop, that I use for distrohopping and silly shennanigans

System:    Kernel: 5.10.16-arch1-1 x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Xfce 4.16.0 Distro: EndeavourOS 
Machine:   Type: Laptop System: ASUSTeK product: X555DG v: 1.0 serial: <filter> 
           Mobo: ASUSTeK model: X555DG v: 1.0 serial: <filter> UEFI: American Megatrends v: X555DG.605 date: 04/18/2019

I want to try to replace the original bios for one that is better fit for linux; I found these two references, on wikipedia thou. They are projects, but that’s about it.

Is someone out there using a bios made for linux?

I bought a Protectli mini PC from their website because it offered the option to pre-flash coreboot on it unlike the ones sold through Amazon. Honestly I can’t comment much on coreboot though because it’s currently acting as my router and I rarely reboot it.

Flashing the BIOS can be risky.
Have you confirmed if your old Asus laptop even supports an alternative BIOS?

Coreboot/Libreboot hardware support is pretty thin, And looking at the hardware compatibility list your Laptop isn’t supported by either:

Also some features don’t work with Coreboot/Libreboot either.
