Worth passing on as this is little known. Should there be enough demand to end this, I feel the FOSS community is best placed to provide a good answer combined with policies to not sell it.

My state makes the voter database available for free. One line of a bash script with wget will download all 14,642,385 of them. Any information you surrender when you resister to vote is made available for all to see. The number of people who reveal their email and phone data is staggering. There is a separate suppression request that you can make at the courthouse freely available to all – not just victims of abuse. The problem with the suppression request is that it only stops future publication of parts of your data – it doesn’t (and can’t) purge historic data from the internet. The bell has been rung and there’s no unringing it.
