Fed. Court Ruling: Border Suspicionless Search of Tech Unconstitutional

Well done EFF & ACLU. Well done America. This is big.

“By putting an end to the government’s ability to conduct suspicionless fishing expeditions, the court reaffirms that the border is not a lawless place and that we don’t lose our privacy rights when we travel.” ~ Esha Bhandari, staff attorney with the ACLU’s Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project.

This is really good news. I cross the border often, and have a lot of laptops, tablets, and cell phones with me when I do cross. All locked down and encrypted of course. Though they have searched through my things, never once have they inquired about my devices (though I would refuse their request if they ever asked).
