On a recent episode of DL, it was mentioned that CSI Cyber TV Show (which I never heard of) tracked a car by hacking bluetooth at intersections.
While absolutely ridiculous, like many ridiculous things on TV, there is a kernel of truth somewhere in there. Many intersections are in fact bluetooth enabled, especially those that are meeting upcoming ADA accessibility guidelines for the visually impaired at pedestrian crossings. Our small town recently upgraded an intersection with these devices, which verbally announce street names when pressing a directional button. They also use bluetooth to allow the pedestrian buttons to talk to each other, eliminating some additional wiring that older intersections will not have present. In addition, residents can use an app on their phones that will announce into their ear pieces when they are approaching an intersection, and provide the street names verbally without the need to find and press the button. its pretty interesting what’s coming up in this area.
