Hi TuxDigital Community,
I’m new to the world of Linux and have been exploring the idea of fully transitioning from Windows to Linux for my daily workflow. I’m a graphic designer and video editor, and my primary tools on Windows have been Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro.
I’ve been researching alternatives and have come across tools like GIMP, Inkscape, and Kdenlive, but I’m unsure how they stack up against Adobe’s ecosystem. My biggest concerns are:
- Learning Curve: How steep is the transition from Adobe tools to these Linux alternatives?
- Performance: Can I expect comparable performance for resource-intensive tasks like 4K video editing and working with large design files?
- Hardware Compatibility: I’m using an NVIDIA GPU—are there any particular distros or settings I should prioritize to ensure stability and performance?
- Community Support: Are there active communities or resources for troubleshooting issues specific to creative workflows on Linux?
Lastly, I’m also looking for recommendations on which Linux distribution might suit my needs. I’ve heard good things about Ubuntu Studio and Pop!_OS, but I’m open to other suggestions. My priorities are stability, ease of use, and software availability.
I’d love to hear your experiences, tips, or even any challenges you’ve faced when making a similar switch. Your insights would mean a lot as I take this step into the Linux ecosystem.
