Really enjoyed this episode, basically all my favorite topics in one.
One feature I ike about xorg is resize and rotate, the scaling option. It has been discussed a little bit, the OLPC has a unique display more than just outdoor reflective mode. The screen uses round pixels as well as reflective outside which now I really want.
Using xrandr --scale less than 1 can create a blurry screen which can be a nice effect. VLC does this for 480p DVD when fullscreen, which I did not appreciate when watching a star trek movie, it bothered me enough that I learned VLC has an option called
swScale
set to bilinear which causes an incredibly noticeable blur, it surprised me that I could see it. Setting this to nearest is much better, for smoother pixels I’ll just hook up the tv and sit farther away.
Framework and fairphone should really get together, these two are the world’s most unique tech companies for repairability and modular parts. It is also nice the newer oled screens use dc-dimming which prevents pwm / pulse width modulation flickering which is just ridiculous. No need for that garabage.
For more feedback I’l need to relisten to the episode. Also I’ve been alternating my sort setting, should have done that years ago!
HMD makes a repairable phone. The Skyline. You can easily replace the battery, screen, charging port and speaker. Each part even includes all tools needed to perform the repair.
