This was mentioned at position 9:20 in the following video:

I just thought this was a neat idea to do at a Linux conference. Apparently, FOSDEM does a sale of used Thinkpads like this every year (they were bought in bulk, and are sold virtually at cost). These laptops get used for some video processing by the conference organizers first, before they sell them off at the conference.

Yikes, the prices for these very same used x250 laptops has almost doubled now (~50-80% more expensive), when I look them up on eBay.
