Why no 100s of MP in cameras now days?

I changed my mind. All previous info is incorrect, at least with a backside illuminated sensor: I watched a youtube video recently that proved the opposite. An A7R4 vs and A73 or something. Yes the R4 has higher noise when viewed at 100% vs the lower MP camer at 100%, but when viewed at the same actual size they were similar, and the higher MP image gave more data for denoising which led to a cleaner image when both were printed the same size.
It was a while ago or I would have a link for you sorry.

Also consider that the A7R series doesn’t have a low pass filter which the a7 series does.
That filter should give less noise at the cost of some sharpness so if you could remove the low pass filter and test then the results could be even closer.

Furthermore I don’t like pixel peeping to do comparisons. I feel it’s an unrealistic test which hardly ever corresponds with real life experiences.
