I’ve been through several versions of every OS including sxmo testing them in their capacity as a phone. I think one of the hardest parts is intuitively describing “how much” of a dev/tinker device this is because some people hear that as an approachable RasPi level, others hear it as you need to start custom hacking libraries in repos.

The revelation for me was just using it as my main calling/texting device for 2 days and that experience entirely changed how I talk about it.

Take the Pinephone challenge!

Rules:

  • Before starting, prepare the Pinephone for the challenge to the point you feel reasonably confident.
  • Use the Pinephone for all calls and texts for 48hrs.
    • You must receive at least 3 sms or calls per day that you’re not expecting when the screen is off. (get a friend to help if needed)
    • The Pinephone can’t be glued to a charger, it should follow you around like a regular phone and only be charged when needed.
  • You can use your Android/iPhone as a wifi device for anything that isn’t texting/calling.

Thanks for the suggestion on siglo. Gadgetbridge would not update my firmware on the Pinetime buy siglo was nearly effortless. After installing 1.3 fw, I have a much easier time staying connected.
